According to Dr. Oz one of the best fatigue fighters that we have is our lungs. I was really bummed at first in hearing this. I am still waiting on my miracle fatigue fighter to show up since coffee exited my life.
Apparently we all are not breathing correctly and the lack of oxygen makes us tired. I do have to admit that I catch myself holding my breath a lot. Even my yoga instructor said that I do not have a good natural breathing technique. I guess stress can cause it.
Dr. Oz wants us to remember to stop and take those deep belly breaths so our lungs can work to their full potential. I can personally vouch after being in the ER hooked to machines numerous times that this works.
When I breathe without thinking my number on the monitor in the ER would be in a range from 96-98%. When taking the deep belly breaths my oxygen in take would stay at 100%.
Therefore remember to stop throughout the day and take some deep breaths to get your energy up. Dr. Oz says that we breathe in a gallon of air during one of these breaths so inhale it and let your body use the air for healing.
I also recommend viewing the Jimmy Falon segment, very funny. http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/jimmy-fallon-gets-dose-dr-oz

A reader of mine shared her story this week on her success at ridding her body of fibroids without a hysterectomy. She stated that the procedure she had done is called UFE and that all women who are thinking of hysterectomy should check this out.
It was an episode of the Dr. Oz show that sparked this fibroid discussion on my site. I was curious about this UFE procedure because even on the show there was no discussion of treatment other than diet and hysterectomy. I checked out a couple of sites and usually put together my own write up of my research. WebMD has a great page of information on this procedure so there is no need to change a thing.
My thoughts on the article are this, if you don’t want to have children this is definitely something to consider if your doctors are strongly urging a hysterectomy. I personally would rather start with a small surgery than a large one. If you end up having to get the hysterectomy in the long run at least in your mind you will know you tried another alternative first.
It sounds like UFE is pretty successful but there is always that unfortunate person that would have to get a hysterectomy anyway. As usual with any type of surgery even the small ones, there are risks of infection and changes in the body that can be risky.

I finally got to catch up on some reading yesterday and stumbled across a helpful article. Due to my Gastritis situation I had to sleep propped up on pillows for months. I have very comfy plump pillows so this was no big deal to me. On the other hand I have had increasing migraines that are due to all this sudden neck and back pain.
It never really occurred to me that the awful pain in my neck and shoulders was from the way I have been sleeping. The pain has blended into the day and night so I could never really figure out what the trigger was.
Page two of this story answered my neck pain dilemma immediately. Last night I changed my sleep habit and I woke this morning pain free. Still a bit stiff but pain free. If I would have done the recommended stretching I probably wouldn’t have been stiff but that is hard to accomplish when you wake to a crying baby.
Being a lover of sleeping on my belly and having to sleep on my side for months now, switching to my back was very uncomfortable. I’ll gladly suck it up to be migraine free.
For fellow Gastritis sufferers this only worked for me because I was not having any symptoms. It will be interesting to try and lay flat on my back when I am in the middle of an episode.
This article is a must read if you are always stiff and sore in the morning. It was written by Kate Hanley and she has her own blog too. I caught the first episode of The Dr. Oz show and it was pretty cool. He touched a number of medical topics and the show was pretty entertaining. I chose to blog about the fibroids segment because I just learned about this condition this year through a friend.
The number one surgery that women are undergoing is a hysterectomy. According to Dr. Oz this is the number one surgery that women may not need. One of the reasons for getting all of these hysterectomies is fibroids. Last year there were 600,000 hysterectomies in the US and three quarters of the procedures were not needed.
If you are like me and are learning about fibroids for the first time here is a quick definition. A uterine fibroid is the most common benign (not cancerous) tumor of a woman's uterus. If your mom had fibroids then your chances of receiving the gift of fibroids is 3x greater. The symptoms of fibroids include increased bleeding, pain or pressure down in the uterine region, frequent urination, constipation and trouble getting pregnant.
If you are experiencing a lot of discomfort Dr. Oz gave some tips to try before going under the knife. Dr. Oz explained that hormones control your fibroids. I’ve said before man we need an instruction manual for dealing with all of these hormones. He recommended two hormone foods to eat to help control fibroids. Tofu has fito-estrogens in it that block hormones from overacting and seaweed is believed to help prevent fibroids from growing. You can purchase seaweed in fun dried snack form and it’s pretty tasty. I’ve tried it. There is also some supplementing that you can discuss with your doctor.
Try these foods first to see if you get relief. It sounds like there is a pretty good chance that you will. Here are Dr. Oz’s comments summed up on surgery for fibroids. Only remove them if they are ruining your life. If fibroids don’t bother you, don’t bother them. Reduce the size of your fibroids through lifestyle. If your doctor wants you to get a hysterectomy, go get a second opinion.
I was having some issues this year with my uterus where a hysterectomy discussion came up with my OB. She said that women in their 30’s and into their 40’s should avoid a hysterectomy at all costs. If you take the uterus out to soon then your insides will start to fall down to soon and create other problems. Hysterectomies are meant for women who are much older. Figure out how to tuff it out is what she told me.
